Wally's Bicycle Works

Wally's Bicycle Works on Bonetti Drive in San Luis Obispo is the shop vintage and recumbent riders seek out. When a customer brought in a 1986 Centurion for the Eroica vintage ride, the mechanics rebuilt the gear cluster to period-correct condition and had it ready for the event. A Catrike Villager recumbent trike purchase came with the fitting and follow-up attention that three-wheel buyers need.

The shop also looks outward: a veteran in need of affordable transportation was set up on a low-cost bike through an outreach arrangement, work the staff treated as ordinary business. Day-to-day service covers the full tune-up menu — wheels, shifting, brakes, bearings — with older frames and unusual drivetrains handled as routine rather than oddities.

The showroom carries new bikes and the parts to keep old ones alive. The staff explain the work before doing it, and the store's easygoing atmosphere keeps riders coming back. The Bonetti Drive location puts it on SLO's main bike-commute corridor.
