Bike Works Mauka

Up in Waimea on Mamalahoa Highway, Bike Works Mauka serves the island's upland cycling community from the space formerly known as Mountain Road Cycles. The full-service shop sells, rents and repairs bikes across mountain, road, gravel and electric categories; the rental fleet has included BMC, LaPierre, Raleigh and Santa Cruz models, and the sales floor carries BMX bikes such as the Sunday Primer and Model C cruisers.

Owner Matt is named in customer feedback for friendly, knowledgeable help and local ride guidance around Old Mamalahoa Highway and Kalopa State Park, while mechanic James draws praise for skilled work on gravel bikes. There are well-maintained rentals, test rides offered without pressure, and repeat December visits from vacationing riders who return year after year.

The shop posts regularly about community rides and new BMX stock, and it organized the Big Island Gran Fondo fundraiser whose proceeds benefited Hospice of Kona. The sales floor also stocks accessories and riding gear.
